Greensboro, NC -- Four Quakers reached double figures, and Guildford College outscored visiting Randolph College 37-18 in the second half to post a 68-52 ODAC win Saturday afternoon at Ragan-Brown Field House. The game concludes both teams' regular season slates.
With the loss Randolph slips to 6-18 overall and 3-13 in conference play. The WildCats will enter the ODAC Championship Tournament as the 10th seed. With the win Guilford improves to 21-4 overall and 14-2 in ODAC games. The Quakers clinched the top spot in next week's post-season tournament.
Randolph came out firing on all cylinders leading most of the first stanza, as Caleb Pearson accounted for 11 first half points, going 2-3 from behind the arc. Pete Hamilton added eight points and two rebounds in a half that saw Randolph shoot 50.0 percent (14-28) from the floor as well as the three-point line (4-8). The WildCats assisted on 10 of their 14 first half field goals, taking a 34-31 lead into the break.
The second half was a much different story, as the Quakers tightened up on defense and limited the WildCats to contested shots and costly turnovers. Following two Pearson free throws, Guilford's Martin Stephenson would score inside followed by a Rhett Bonner trey to knot the score at 39-39 with 15:06 remaining. The Quakers would take their first lead of the second half at 41-39 just minutes later when George Neville connected on two from the charity stripe. Two free throws from Timothy Clarke tied the game at 41-41 with just under 13 minutes to play, but Guilford would take over the lead and the game from there. The Quakers would outscore Randolph 26-12 in the final 10 minutes to capture the 68-52 ODAC victory.
Pearson led the WildCats with a career-best 13 points. Derrick Woods-Morrow followed with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, recording his tenth double-double of the season. Although starting very effective on the offensive end, Randolph struggled to find their rhythm in the second half, finishing the game shooting 36.5 percent (19-52) from the field.
Guilford was led by Bonner with a game-high 18 points including three treys. Clay Henson followed with 16 points, while Stephenson added 14 points. Neville notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Quakers also struggled shooting from the floor (34 percent) thanks to the WildCats defense, but managed to score 26 of their 68 points from the charity stripe. Guilford was whistled for eight personal fouls, while Randolph accounted for 17 personal fouls.
