Newport News, VA -- Randolph College Men's Basketball standout Derrick Woods-Morrow has been named Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Rookie of the Year as announced by the organization Monday afternoon.
The Greensboro, NC native averaged 10.8 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds leading the young WildCat squad in their first season in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with victories against Hampden-Sydney College, Washington and Lee University and cross-town rival Lynchburg College. Woods-Morrow proved to be a force inside for Randolph, leading the ODAC in offensive rebounds (3.7) and ranking third in defensive rebounds (5.0). He shot 57.3 percent from the floor, good for third best in the conference. The first-year forward also earned ODAC Rookie of the Year honors this past season.
"Derrick approached this season with a desire to work, grow and help our team have success on the court", stated Head Coach Clay Nunley. "He maintained that focus throughout the season, and his recognition as the VaSID Rookie of the Year reflects that". "It's a well-deserved honor for Derrick and our program", explained Nunley.
