Lynchburg, VA -- Randolph College men's basketball head coach Clay Nunley announced the WildCats' 2009-2010 schedule on Wednesday. Highlighting the non-conference portion of the schedule are matchups with USA South and Capital Athletic Conference opponents, a tournament in New York, and a meeting with Division I member Virginia Military Institute.
"We are looking forward to the 2009-2010 season. The quality of our non-conference opponents will prepare us for the always competitive ODAC slate. Our team and student-athletes have gained valuable experience over the past two years against many strong programs, and we look forward to using that experience to help us continue to build our program and work for successful results."
Randolph will open its season November 15th on the road against Gallaudet University. Two more road contests will follow before the WildCats play their home opener on November 21st against Shenandoah University. Randolph's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game will take place at Randolph-Macon on December 2nd, and their first home conference tilt occurs a week later against cross-town rival Lynchburg College. The WildCats will take on Big South Conference member VMI in Lexington on December 12th before breaking for final exams.
Following the break, Randolph resumes action on December 29th and 30th in the Tournament of Heroes at the College of Staten Island in New York. In addition to the host school, also participating in the tournament are Piedmont College and Colby-Sawyer College. The tournament honors three former College of Staten Island basketball players and graduates who passed away in the attacks on 9/11.
With the exception of their final non-conference matchup of the season on January 18th at home against Greensboro College, January and February will consist exclusively of ODAC games, including the final regular season home game on February 20th against 2009 Final Four participant Guilford College. The WildCats will have home/away matchups with Randolph-Macon, Bridgewater, Lynchburg, Emory and Henry, Virginia Wesleyan, and Guilford, while playing Eastern Mennonite, Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney, and Washington and Lee once apiece.
Randolph will enter its second full season in the ODAC in 2009-2010. The team returns all five starters from a season ago. To view the full 2009-10 schedule, click here.
