WildCats suffer 6-1 defeat at Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, VA -- After trailing 1-0, Virginia Wesleyan scored six unanswered goals on way to a 6-1 win over visiting Randolph College in ODAC men's soccer action Wednesday night. The game marked the first time the two schools have met in men's competition.

With the loss Randolph slips to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Virginia Wesleyan improves to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Hong Ju Moon put Randolph on the board early with a goal off an assist from Sequoyah Healy-Louer just 2:16 into the game. Clay Price would answer for Virginia Wesleyan and tie the game at 1-1 with a goal off an assist from Justin Naramore at the 15:22 mark of the first period. From there, Virginia Wesleyan would score five straight unanswered goals. Harrison Myrdal would give Virginia Wesleyan a 2-1 lead at the half with a goal off an assist from Nick Forno at the 26:52 mark of the first period.

Jason Malkiewicz would extend the lead to 3-1 off a penalty kick at the 59:04 mark of the second period. Brandon Massie would then net two goals at the 64:54 and 66:37 marks respectively, pushing the lead to 5-1. Loren Bagley would cap Virginia Wesleyan's scoring with a goal at the 84:32 mark off an assist from Adam Stringer to make it 6-1.

Virginia Wesleyan outshot Randolph 22-8, while holding an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. It was a very physical game with each team being whistled for 14 fouls each. WildCats goalie Aaron Humphreys had three saves in net for the WildCats.

Randolph will return to action Saturday when the WildCats travel to Emory and Henry College for an ODAC game at 6:00 pm.
