Lynchburg, VA -- Jonathon Bolton scored two goals, one being the game-winner, as Randolph College posted an important 2-1 win against visiting Randolph-Macon College Tuesday afternoon in ODAC men's soccer action.
With the win Randolph improves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Randolph-Macon falls to 3-8-1 and 2-3-1 in conference play. The WildCats are now in sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Matt Andes would strike first for the Yellow Jackets with a goal off assists from Ethan Cornelio and Andrew Parham at the 23:46 mark of the first period. The teams would continue to battle, but the score remained 1-0 at the half in favor of Randolph-Macon.
The second period belonged to the Wildcats' Jonathon Bolton, who cashed in on his first goal of the game at the 55:27 mark off an assist from Eddy Ratianarivo to tie the score at 1-1. Just three minutes later, Bolton broke free from the defense and Robert Goldnetz found him with an assist to give Randolph a 2-1 lead. From there the Wildcats defense took away any easy opportunities for the Yellow Jackets to secure the win.
WildCats goalie Aaron Humphreys had five saves in the game, while Yellow Jackets goalie Jason DePre made five saves in net. Randolph-Macon outshot the Wildcats 11-7, while holding a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Randolph will return to action Saturday when the WildCats travel to Hampden-Sydney College for an ODAC contest at 3:00 pm.
