Hampden-Sydney, VA -- Jonathon Bolton scored the game-winning goal 5:58 into the overtime period as Randolph College posted a 1-0 win over host Hampden-Sydney College in ODAC men's soccer action late Saturday afternoon.
With the win Randolph improves to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Hampden-Sydney falls to 7-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. Randolph moves into fourth place in the ODAC standings with the win.
The teams played through regulation time scoreless, with each team unable to gain advantages in the offensive zone. At the 95:58 mark of the first overtime, Bolton found the back of the net to give Randolph one of the biggest wins in the program's history. WildCats goalie Aaron Humphreys was excellent in net not allowing Hampden-Sydney to score.
Hampden-Sydney outshot Randolph 15-6, while holding a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks. Randolph was whistled for 14 fouls, while Hampden-Sydney was called for eight fouls.
Bolton has totaled three goals in Randolph's last two contests, recording the game-winning goal in each of those two wins for the WildCats.
Randolph will return to action Wednesday when the WildCats welcome Roanoke College for an ODAC contest at 4:00 pm. Roanoke currently has a one-game lead in the conference standings over Randolph.
