Salem, VA -- Randolph College junior goalie Aaron Humphreys was named ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
It marks the second time a men's soccer play from Randolph has been named to the award. Humphreys joins fellow junior Jonathon Bolton who earned the award during the 2008 season.
Humphreys has been steady in net all year for the WildCats battling some early season injuries along the way. He was nothing short of spectacular this week, leading the WildCats to a 1-0-1 record over the past seven days of competition. In the first match of the week, Randolph traveled to Guilford in an important ODAC match. Behind strong play from Humphreys in net, Randolph recorded a 3-0 shutout win against the Quakers. Humphreys finished with three saves posting his third shutout of the season.
On Saturday, the WildCats welcomed Virginia Wesleyan College who entered the contest in second place in the ODAC standings. Humphreys came up huge again in goal, playing his best match of the season in net. The Powhatan, VA native stopped everything the Marlins could kick at him, including several point blank opportunities from within the box. The WildCats and Marlins settled for a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of play. Humphreys finished the match with a season-high 12 saves.
For the year, Humphreys has a 1.31 goals against average (6th in ODAC) with 70 saves (3rd in ODAC) and a .843 saves percentage (2nd in ODAC).
Randolph currently sits in fifth place in the ODAC standings at 2-2-2. Humphreys and the Wildcats travel to Roanoke College on Wednesday for a match at 7:00 p.m. before taking to the road Saturday to face Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
