Rocky Mount, NC – The Randolph College men’s soccer team made history as it stepped onto the field against North Carolina Wesleyan College today. The game marked the start of the first-ever men’s soccer season at Randolph College.
The WildCats held the nationally ranked Bishops scoreless for the first 45:00 minutes of regulation. Randolph goalie Aaron Humphreys had six first-half saves in his first collegiate start.
The Bishops scored early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Three more unanswered goals gave the Bishops a 4-0 win in the season opener. The WildCats were held scoreless on two shots in the second half. Humphreys finished the game with 10 saves for the ‘Cats.
North Carolina Wesleyan was recently ranked #15 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national preseason poll. The Bishops are also the preseason favorites to win the USA South Athletic Conference.
The WildCats take on Methodist College tomorrow in their second game of the North Carolina Wesleyan Fall Classic.
