Rocky Mount, NC – Eric van Staalduinen’s goal early in the first half of Randolph College’s men’s soccer game against Methodist College today is one that will forever have a place in WildCat soccer history. The goal from 15 yards out was the first in the program’s young history and gave the WildCats an early 1-0 lead.
After losing by a respective score of 4-0 to 15th ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College yesterday, the WildCats had an upset on their mind as they faced the Monarchs, who finished 14-5-1 last season.
After falling behind early, Desmond Kean scored off of a corner kick 16 minutes into the first half to tie the game for the Monarchs. Bret Brennan scored the game-winning goal for the Monarchs 13 minutes into the second half. Methodist held off the WildCats for the remaining 32 minutes of play to take home the win.
The WildCats finished the weekend with a third place finish in the 2007 North Carolina Wesleyan College Fall Classic. The team takes on Ferrum College on Friday night in their home-opener at 7:00 P.M.
