Lynchburg, VA – The Randolph men’s soccer team added another page to its record book tonight.  The WildCats—playing in the first home men’s intercollegiate game in any sport at Randolph College—shutout Ferrum College in a 2-0 win tonight under the lights.

The win marks the first of the season for Randolph and the first in the program’s young history.  First-year Jonathon Bolton (Richmond, VA / Lloyd C. Bird) scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Eddie Ratianarivo (Richmond, VA/ The Miller School) in the thirteenth minute of play to give the WildCats an early lead.  Goalkeeper Aaron Humphreys ( Powhatan, VA/ PowhatonHigh School) and the Randolph defense held the Panthers scoreless on five shots in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The WildCats, playing in front of a crowd of 350, quickly got on the board early in the second half on Bolton’s second goal of the game. The Randolph forward connected again off of a pass from Ratianarivo in the forty sixth minute of play to give the WildCats a 2-0 lead.  The WildCat defense held the Panthers to only five shots on goal in the shutout.

Humphreys finished the game with five saves to bring his season total to 23.

The win also marks the first victory for Head Coach Bryan Waggoner.  “The guys came out tonight and played as a unit and as a team,” says Waggoner.  “They have shown the ability to listen and learn in the short amount of time that they have worked together as a team and with our coaching staff.”

The WildCats head to Shenandoah University on Sunday afternoon to face the Hornets at 1:00.
