Eddy Ratianarivo tallied his fourth assist of the season today.

Lynchburg, VAThe WildCat men’s soccer team scored first today, but was unable to hold on to the lead, eventually falling by a score of 3-1 to the Averett University Cougars.

Eddy Ratianarivo (Richmond, VA/ The Miller School) hit Montana Gibson (Big Island, VA/ Liberty High School) on a crossing pass, who then slid a shot passed Averett goalie Joe Dusewicz, giving the WildCats an early 1-0 lead halfway through the first half.   The goal was Gibson’s first of the season, as well as the first of his Randolph collegiate career.

At the 38:33 mark, Cougar Stanley Abada scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one goal a piece.  The scored remained tied at halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half, John Bowman scored on a blooper that floated over the head of the WildCat goalie to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.  Less than 45 seconds later, Abada broke free from the WildCat defense to score his second goal of the game, giving Averett a 3-1 lead.

Randolph out-shot Averett 13-4 in the second half, but was unable to convert on its scoring attacks, including two shots by Ratianarivo that ricocheted off of the goal posts.

The WildCats are now 1-5 on the season and face Southern Virginia University on the road on Thursday.
