The WildCats worked a full day hanging drywall in the Habitat house.

Lynchburg, VA — Throughout the 2007-2008 academic year, the Randolph College community has been working with Habitat for Humanity to help fundraise and build a home for a member of the College’s staff.

On Saturday, the WildCat men’s soccer team rolled up its sleeves and worked a full day at the Habitat build site. The team members’ task for the day was cutting, hanging, and nailing drywall. “When we walked into the house in the morning there were no walls or ceilings,” explained WildCat Head Men’s Soccer Coach Bryan Waggoner. “When we walked out at the end of the day, there were three rooms with walls, ceilings, and windows.”

The team also participated in the momentous occasion of putting the front door on the house.

The WildCats not only helped contribute to the Habitat project, but they also used the experience as a team-building exercise. “This was one of the best team building exercises I have ever participated in,” says Waggoner. “The team had to listen to instructions, execute the orders given to them, and then work together to accomplish the goal at hand.”

By the end of the day, it was evident to Waggoner that his team enjoyed participating in the community service project. “Coach, I am so glad we did this,” was the sentiment expressed by many of Waggoner’s team members.
