Lynchburg, VA -- Greg McCain scored the game-winning goal with 2:48 remaining in the game off an assist from Trevor Davies to give Southern Virginia University the 1-0 win over Randolph College late Friday afternoon.
With the win, Southern Virginia improves to 1-1. The WildCats fall to 0-3 on the year.
The two teams battled evenly the entire game until McCain broke through the WildCat defense netting the game-winning goal. Eddy Ratianarivo led the Wildcats with six shots, four being on goal. Timothy Songer added two shots on goal, while Nick Hudson had three shots on goal for Randolph. Several times throughout the second period Randolph had excellent opportunities in the offensive end but could not capitalize.
Randolph held a 19-11 shot advantage, while holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Jason Lowe was steady in goal for Southern Virginia with 13 saves for the shutout. WildCat goalie Aaron Humphreys was stellar as well with nine saves.
Randolph will return to action on Tuesday with a match at Ferrum College at 7:00 pm.
