Despite valiant second half comeback, WildCats fall short against Eastern Mennonite

Lynchburg, VA -- Mitchell Leap netted the game winning goal at the 97:09 mark of the first overtime period as Eastern Mennontie University held on to a 3-2 overtime win against Randolph College in ODAC men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

With the loss Randolph drops to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Eastern Mennonite improves to 8-2 and 2-2 in conference play.

The Royals got on the board first when Regulo Cardoso scored a goal off an assist from Leap at the 40:54 mark of the first period. Eastern Mennonite then added to their lead with a goal from Charles Metz IV off an asisst from Cardoso at the 59:09 mark of the second period.

The Wildcats would answer with a goal from Justin Stepehens off asissts from Nick Hudson and Chris Geyer at the 64:63 mark of the second period cutting the lead to 2-1. Jonathan Bolton would then continue his heroics as he found the back of the net off assists from Geyer and Eddy Ratianarivo with just 6:30 remaining in the contest.

Leap would then net the game winner seven minutes into the first overtime to secure the win for the Royals.

Eastern Mennonite outshot Randolph 14-10, while the Wildcats held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Goalie Jackson Maust had seven saves in net for the Royals. WildCats goalie Aaron Humphreys made nine saves in the contest.

Randolph will return to action Wednesday when the Wildcats travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a game at 7:00 pm.
