Lynchburg, VA -- Despite a career-high 15 points from first-year forward Kristen Blalock, Randolph College could not stop the high scoring offense of Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets posted a 72-47 ODAC win Tuesday night.
With the loss Randolph slips to 2-15 overall and 2-13 in conference play. Randolph-Macon improves to 15-4 overall and 12-2 in ODAC games.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to five points from Amanda Hiltunen and a layup from Molly Ariail. The WildCats would respond as junior guard Katie Rechnitzer tossed in the first five points for Randolph connecting on her lone trey and adding a driving layup with 15:38 left in the first half. The Yellow Jackets would increase their lead in the final five minutes of the half, capped by a three-pointer by Jillian Asay as time expired. Randolph-Macon would take a 35-23 lead to the break.
In the second stanza, the Yellow Jacket lead would swell to as many as 26 points, thanks to the inside play of Ariail, who finished with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. The WildCats were unable to find their shooting touch throughout the game, only shooting 30.8 percent (20-65) from the field. Their struggles continued from the three-point line, shooting 30.8 percent (4-13) from behind the arc.
Blalock added three rebounds, two assists and a block showing an outstanding all-around game. Lindsay Cross recorded her second double-double of the season finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds, her seventh game in double figures this season. Rechnitzer added 11 points, shooting 5-11 from the floor.
The WildCats were plagued with 23 turnovers in the game, resulting in 18 Yellow Jackets points. Randolph-Macon held a slight advantage on the boards, outrebounding Randolph 40-39.
Randolph will return to action Friday when the WildCats welcome Mary Baldwin College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 p.m.
