Three WildCats score in double figures
|
Lexington, VA -- Randolph College stormed out to a 26-22 halftime lead, but could not hold on as the host Washington and Lee University Generals posted a 55-46 ODAC win over the WildCats Saturday afternoon.
With the loss Randolph falls to 3-16 overall and 2-14 in league play. Washington and Lee sees its overall mark improve to 11-9 and conference mark to 10-5.
Randolph raced out to an early 10-4 lead after a three-pointer from Katie Rechnitzer with 15:16 remaining in the first half. A Kristen Blalock layup would keep the WildCats ahead 16-11 with 9:20 left in the half. From there, Randolph would take a 26-22 lead into the break.
In the second half, Washington and Lee would outscore Randolph 33-20, thanks to the play of Bethany Ridenhour and Meghan Ingram who each poured in a game-high 16 points. 30 WildCat turnovers proved to be the difference in a tightly contested contest throughout.
For Randolph, Lindsay Cross enjoyed an outstanding game with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Blalock came off the bench to scored 14 points in 20 minutes of action. Michelle Brockman added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Randolph shot 40.0 percent (18-45) from the field, and 30.0 percent (3-10) from behind the arc. Randolph struggled taking care of the basketball, as the Generals converted 24 points off of WildCat miscues.
Randolph will return to action Tuesday when the Wildcats welcome Hollins University for an ODAC contest scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Randolph posted a 75-65 win last month over Hollins in the teams first meeting.
