Lynchburg, VA -- Junior guard Katie Rechnitzer tossed in a game-high 18 points and first-year forward Kristen Blalock added 11 more, but Bridgewater College dominated inside the paint outrebounding Randolph 52-33 as the Eagles posted a 62-51 ODAC win Saturday afternoon. The game marked the "Locks of Love" event in which members of the WildCat team and members of the community donated their hair to the great cause.
With the loss Randolph drops to 4-18 overall and 3-15 in conference play. Bridgewater improves to 12-10 overall and 10-7 in the ODAC.
The Eagles stormed out to an early 14-6 lead after a layup from Bianca Booker with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The WildCats would not go away easy, as Michelle Brockman and Rechnitzer each tossed in two from the charity stripe to tie the game at 20-20 with 5:18 left in the half. Bridgewater used their size advantage inside, scoring six straight points to take back the lead late in the half. A Blalock jumper would cut the deficit to 28-24 heading into the break.
In the second half, Rechnitzer would come out on fire hitting two jumpers wedged between a deep three-pointer to tie the game at 33-33. From there, Bridgewater would take back the lead yet again after a driving layup from Jenny Logan and a free throw from Lacey Barnett. The Eagles would extend their lead over the next seven minutes to as many as 12 points, hitting six free throws down the stretch to escape with the conference win.
Rechnitzer went 6-13 from the floor and 2-6 from behind the arc. Blalock added three rebounds and one block to go with her 11 points. Lindsay Cross pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and scored eight points. Sam Schaffstall recorded a game-high six assists.
Leading the way for Bridgewater was Jordan Burkholder with 18 points and six rebounds. Rebecca Henderson was dominant inside for the Eagles, recording a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jennifer Saunders added 10 points.
As a team Randolph shot 32.1 percent (18-56) and 26.7 percent (4-15) from three-point range.
