Lynchburg, VA -- The Randolph College Women's Basketball team recently held their annual "Locks of Love" event on Saturday, February 14th. Several WildCat players and members of the Lynchburg community graciously donated their hair to the special cause. Randolph was one of over 1,500 schools and organizations who participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) initiative.
The event collected 30 braids and $314 in donations. The day was full of special giveaways and raffles, along with a performance from the WildCats dance team. The WildCats honored the late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach and past president and founding member of the WBCA, with a moment of silence prior to the tip-off against Bridgewater College.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that uses these donations to provide hairpieces to financially disadvantage children under the age of 18 who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have been diagnosed with alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
