Lindsay Cross records double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds

Lynchburg, VA -- Katie Rechnitzer, Lindsay Cross and Kristen Blalock provided most of the firepower combining for 51 of the 64 points for Randolph as the WildCats posted a 64-54 ODAC win over cross-town rival Lynchburg College Friday night. The win ends the conference season for Randolph.
With the win Randolph improves to 6-18 overall and 5-15 in ODAC play. Lynchburg drops to 8-16 overall and 6-13 in conference games.
The Hornets led early 13-8 after a jumper from Chevonne Booker at the 12:09 mark of the first half. Their lead would increase to 16 points at 24-8 following a Kristina Darby driving layup at the 6:53 mark. The WildCats would respond and end the half on a 6-0 run thanks to two layups from Blalock and a jumper from Cross. Lynchburg would take a 27-24 lead to the break.
Randolph continued their momentum and a Blalock layup would give the WildCats their first lead of the second stanza at 28-27with just under eighteen minutes to play. A deep trey from Rechnitzer and scores inside the paint from Cross and Sam Schaffstall increased the WildCats lead to 42-34 with 12:13 remaining. Lynchburg would not go away though, as the Hornets battled back to knot the score at 44-44 after one of two free throws from Tamara Snead with seven minutes left in the game. Randolph would use one last surge to take back the lead for good, using a 9-0 run in the last 3:30 to take an 11 point lead, 63-52. Three of four free throws in the final thirty seconds would seal the conference win for Randolph.
Rechnitzer led the offensive attack with 19 points, going 7-9 form the charity stripe. Blalock added 16 points, seven rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Cross notched her third double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Schaffstall dished out six assists.
Darby led the Hornets with a game-high 22 points, going 9-14 from the floor and canning three treys. Kylie Lucas added 12 points and six rebounds.
Before the contest, senior guard Sam Schaffstall and senior manager Sarah Hassmer were honored for all their hard work and dedication to the Randolph College Women's Basketball program.
Randolph will close out the season Monday, when the WildCats welcome Trinity College for a non-conference matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
