Shacklette played and started in all eight games for the WildCats during the season

Lynchburg, VA -- The Randolph College Athletics Department is saddened of the tragic news that first-year men's lacrosse player Aaron Shacklette died Thursday evening at UVA Medical Center from injuries obtained in a car accident. At the time of the accident Aaron was returning to his home in Fredericksburg from Lynchburg following the completion of his first year at the College.

The Stafford High School graduate played both the attack and midfield positions for the WildCats in their inaugural season in 2009. He recorded the first assist in program history against Marywood University on March 7, 2009. On the season, Aaron totaled three shots and nine ground balls as Randolph competed as an NCAA Division III Independent.

"Aaron was a pioneer of the lacrosse program and the heart and soul of our team," stated head coach Scott Ketcham. "He was a tremendous young man with a huge heart and will be missed by family, friends and the Randolph College community".

Aaron also was active in the college community serving on the First Year Board and as a Gold Key Guide. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shacklette family through these difficult times," commented Athletics Director Tina Hill. "Aaron will always be a part of the Randolph family".

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Stafford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Chancellor Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
