WildCats jump out to 3-0 lead and never look back

Staunton, VA -- Randolph College took an early 3-0 lead in the first half and added one more tally in the second half to secure their first win of the 2009 season 4-1 at Mary Baldwin College on Thursday afternoon.
With the win Randolph improves to 1-1 on the year, while Mary Baldwin slips to 0-2 overall.
First-year Noosheen Khayam put the WildCats on the board first at the 10:00 mark of the first half. First-year Brianne Roth added her first collegiate tally off an assist from Amanda Cooper just eight minutes later extending the lead to 2-0. Sophomore midfielder Courtney Collier capped off the scoring in the first half when she found the back of the net at the 26:31 mark.
Brianna Aviles would answer for the Fighting Squirrels with a goal at the 55:56 mark of the second half. Cooper would then end any chances for a comeback when she netted her first collegiate tally with three minutes remaining to seal the WildCat victory.
Junior goalie Victoria Johnson was stellar in net finishing with three saves. She records her first win in net this season. Randolph outshot Mary Baldwin 16-6, while the Fighting Squirrels held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 4-2.
Randolph will make their much awaiting home debut on Saturday when they welcome Averett University to Lynchburg, VA. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
