Lynchburg, VA -- Averett University used two first half goals to gain their lead, then added one more for insurance in the second half as the visiting Cougars spoiled the home debut for the Randolph College women's soccer team posting a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon.
With the loss Randolph falls to 1-2 on the season while Averett improves to 1-1 overall.
Silje Storstrand scored the Cougars first tally at the 26:38 mark of the first when she beat WildCat goalie Victoria Johnson. Claire Armstrong would add to the Averett lead when she found the back of the net off an assist from Storstand just seven minutes later. Averett would take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Leanne Mullins would end any type of WildCat comeback effort when she tallied her first goal of the year with just four minutes left to play in the second half.
Averett outshot Randolph 20-9, while holding a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson finished with 12 saves in net for the WildCats, while Cougar netminder Sam Lupo recorded three saves on the afternoon.
Randolph will continue their home stretch when they welcome Trinity College to Lynchburg on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. on Randolph's new track and field complex.
