Songer records his fourth and fifth goal of the season

Lynchburg, VA -- Mike Pappas found the back of the net just two minutes into overtime off a free kick just outside the box as Washington and Jefferson posted a 4-3 overtime win over Randolph College at Shellenberger Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss Randolph slips to 1-2-1 on the year. Washington and Jefferson improves to 2-2 on the season.

Eddy Ratianarivo gave Randolph an early 1-0 lead when he scored unassisted at the 19:52 mark of the first half. Mike Pappas would answer and knot the score at 1-1 when he recorded his first tally at the 28:40 mark of the first half off an assist from Dan Hart. Just 13 seconds later, Pappas would find the back of the net again this time off an assist from Chris Skovira to give W&J their first lead of the contest. Randolph's Timothy Songer would rise to the occasion and tie the score for a second time at 2-2 when he scored off an assist from Ratianarivo at the 30:34 mark. The teams would go to the break tied at 2-2.

W&J would take their second lead of the game at 3-2 when Hart would score unassisted. Songer answered yet again this time beating goalie Simen Myrum to knot the game at 3-3 thanks to a helper from Montana Gibson. Both teams would battle to a 3-3 tie as regulation would end.

From there, Pappas would record the hat-trick by netting his third goal of the game, this time as the game-winner. W&J outshot Randolph 20-15 in the contest, and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. WildCat goalie Scott Zaring started his second straight contest finishing with six saves.

Randolph will return to action tomorrow when they face Mary Washington University for a match at 12:00 p.m. at Shellenberger Field.
