Goalie Victoria Johnson finishes with 21 saves

Lynchburg, VA -- Virginia Wesleyan College stormed out to a 2-0 halftime lead, then added four more unanswered goals in the second frame to capture a 6-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over host Randolph College on Tuesday night.
With the loss Randolph slips to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in ODAC contests. The Marlins improve to 5-3 and 2-1 in conference matches.
The Marlins' Jerilyn Idler starting the scoring tear for Virginia Wesleyan when she put home a rebound past WildCat goalie Victoria Johnson at the 14:33 mark. Krista Witmer would add the second tally for the Marlins at the 31:37 mark thanks to an assist from Sam Tyner.
The second half brought much more of the same as Virginia Wesleyan continued their offensive attack netting four second half goals. Hanna Winkel extended the Marlins lead to 3-0 when she found the back of the net at the 54:32 mark, and twenty minutes later Katie Gradel got into the scoring action as she scored her first goal of the game off a rebound. Jenna Riegel and Kristyn Anselmo rounded out the Virginia Wesleyan attack with goals just two minutes apart at 86:05 and 88:45 respectively.
Virginia Wesleyan held a 39-2 shot advantage and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson finished with 21 saves for Randolph, the second match where she has tallied atleast 20 saves.
Randolph will return to action Saturday when they take a brake from ODAC play and welcome past alumnae for a match at 2:00 p.m. on the college's new track and field complex.
