Women's Tennis opens 2009 fall season with 6-2 loss against SVU

Lynchburg, VA -- The Randolph College women's tennis team dropped a 6-2 decision against visiting Southern Virginia University on Monday afternoon in their first action of the 2009 fall campaign.

The Knights tallied four of six singles matches before taking two of three doubles flights. For Randolph, first-year Luisa Poveda-Bautista recorded her first win as a collegiate by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Junior Shantel Rivera also scored a win for the WildCats taking her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles competition, SVU would take doubles #1 and #3 by scores of 8-4 and 8-2 respectively. #2 doubles was retired due to darkness.

Randolph will return to the courts October 10th and 11th when they travel to Hollins University to compete in the Fall ODAC Tournament at 11:00 a.m.
