Lynchburg, VA -- Erica Edwards broke free from the Randolph defense and found the back of the net with just three minutes left in the first overtime as visiting Salem College posted a 2-1 overtime victory over Randolph College in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday night.
With the loss Randolph sees its overall mark stand at 3-6, while Salem improves to 7-3-1 on the year.
Salem's Tia Bringhurst would put Salem on the board early when she tallied a goal off a breakaway at the 64:44 mark of the second half. With just under eight minutes remaining in the contest, WildCat first-year midfielder Samantha Wittie would take a shot that would sail over Spirits keeper Jazmine Bridgeman's head and tie the game at 1-1.
From there, Edwards would tally the game-winner to capture the tightly contested non-conference match. Salem held a 18-7 advantage in shots, while holding a 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. WildCats goalie Victoria Johnson finished with nine saves, while Bridgeman posted two stops.
Randolph will now return to ODAC play Sunday when they travel to Lexington, VA to face Washington and Lee University for a match scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
