Greensboro, NC – Randolph College jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half, then added one more goal in the second for insurance as the visiting WildCats posted a 3-0 shutout win at Guilford College Tuesday night.
With the win Randolph improves to 3-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in ODAC matches. Guilford drops to 7-6-1 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
First-year Sam McGarrity tallied his first collegiate goal at the 31:25 mark of the first half when he headed a ball past Quakers goalie Johnathan Shine off a corner kick from sophomore Timothy Songer. Just two minutes later, sophomore forward Timothy Songer would gather a loose ball at the top of the box and find the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
The second half brought much of the same success for Randolph, as the WildCats sophomore Nick Hudson recorded his second goal of the season at the 53:10 mark when he took a ball from junior midfielder Zack MacDougall to cushion the lead at 3-0. Randolph’s backline was outstanding the rest of the way as the WildCats defense only allowed three shots on goal the entire match.
WildCats junior goalie Aaron Humphreys finished with three saves to record the shutout win. Shine posted one save on the night. Guilford held an 11-8 shot advantage and an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Randolph will return to action Saturday when they welcome Virginia Wesleyan College for an ODAC match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
