Sweet Briar, VA – Emily Davies’ lone goal in the 16th minute of the first half was all the Vixens needed as Sweet Briar College posted a 1-0 win over visiting cross-town rival Randolph College on Thursday night.
With the loss Randolph slips to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in ODAC matches. Sweet Briar improves to 3-8-1 overall and 1-5 in conference tilts.
Davies goal proved to be the game-winner in a tightly contested match. Caitlin Swauger found Davies darting toward the goal as she beat WildCats goalie Victoria Johnson to secure the win. Randolph outshot the Vixens 12-10, while Sweet Briar held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson finished with three saves on the afternoon, while Vixens’ keeper Seanne Weekes posted four saves recording the shutout.
Randolph will return to action Saturday when they welcome Hollins University for an ODAC match scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the college’s new field and track complex. During halftime of the match, Randolph College will celebrate the opening of the new facility. Activities include remarks by President John. E. Klein, a ribbon cutting, and a Hall of Champions chariot race.
