Lynchburg, VA -- Junior midfielder Zachary MacDougall scored Randolph's first goal then added an assist on their second tally as the WildCats posted a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Averett University in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday night.

With the win Randolph improves to 5-8-4 overall, while Averett slips to 8-6-1 on the year.

MacDougall netted the eventual game-winner when he headed in a corner kick from sophomore Timothy Songer at the 6:56 mark of the first half. The WildCats would take the 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second frame, Randolph would move the ball into the offensive end again and sophomore Eddy Ratianarivo would take a shot off the right side of the box and beat Cougars goalie Nate Barker to extend the lead to 2-0 with just over ten minutes left to play. MacDougall and sophomore Nick Hudson would add assists on the Ratianarivo tally.

Averett held a slight shot advantage at 17-12, while Randolph held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Randolph goalie first-year Scott Zaring started in net finishing with four saves, while junior keeper Aaron Humphreys played the second half finishing with one save. The two combined for the shutout victory.

The WildCats lone senior Montana Gibson was honored before the match for all his hard work and dedication to the Randolph men's soccer program. Randolph will return to action Tuesday when the WildCats travel to Eastern Mennonite University for a key ODAC match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
