Dalton recorded her 14th win of the season in game one

Lynchburg, VA -- First-year pitcher Teresa Dalton continued her fine performances in the circle for Randolph, throwing a complete game three-hit shutout in game one to secure a 1-0 win over visiting Averett University. The Cougars battled back in game two to post a 7-6 win.

With the split Randolph sees its overall record stand at 19-13, while Averett sits at 17-15 overall on the year.

Dalton threw a three-hit gem in game one, not allowing a run through all seven innings of work. The Cougars did not record their first hit until the fourth inning when Erin Anderson singled to left field. Randolph recorded the game winning run in the bottom of the first when Brittany Irvine led off with a bunt single. After moving to third on two groundouts, Irvine would cross the plate on a Lindsay Cross single to centerfield. That is all the support Dalton would need as she retired the next nine Cougars to record the win.

Nikki Smith led the WildCats offensively with three hits. Lauren Siko, Dalton and Irvine added hits for Randolph. Dalton moved to 14-10 overall after the shutout win on the mound. Sandra Dennison recorded the loss for Averett going six innings allowing eight hits and one earned run.

Randolph would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in game two thanks to RBI singles from Smith and Victoria DeGaetano. Averett responded in the second inning with five runs on one hit and one error, including an RBI double from Hayley Brooks. The WildCats clawed their way back in the fourth with four runs thanks to a base clearing triple by Sarah Montgomery. It was not enough as Averett held down the WildCat attack in the next three innings to secure the 7-6 win and a split.

Alicia DiCola picked up the loss for Randolph going three innings allowing three hits and one earned run. Dannielle Emerson recorded the win for the Cougars going four innings allowing six hits and four earned runs. Smith and DeGaetano led the WildCat attack with two hits and one RBI each.

Randolph will conclude regular season play Monday when the WildCats welcome St. Paul's College for a doubleheader scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
